Sequencing is the process where a supplier delivers parts to an OEM assembly plant in an exact order as required by the OEM. It promotes lean manufacturing which reduces waste without sacrificing productivity. Sequencing removes the need for standing inventory which can be costly and use valuable warehouse space. Receiving parts just in time and in sequence streamlines production and allows suppliers to know exactly what parts they need to manufacture or assemble.

Sequencing plays a significant role in part traceability. For the automotive industry, this is required and particularly useful in vehicle recalls. Automotive sequencing process requires each part be linked to a specific vehicle identification number (VIN) as well as certain commodities, such as tires or airbags.

For example, in our Louisville, Kentucky plant, we are a full service supplier for bumper and grill assemblies and manage the sequencing only for more than 34 different commodity streams.
